I’ll Make Me a World in Iowa 10th Annual Celebration Day

Polk County Convention Complex, Des Moines, Iowa non-stop performances on three stages, culture, art, history, displays, entertainment, soul food, kids activities and much more.
Along with hundreds of performers from Iowa and the midwest, headliner actor Morris Chestnut joins in this year's Celebration Day! Phenomenal contemporary gospel singers Tri-ni-tee 5:7 perform live! Plus, much more to enjoy and stay all day! It's free! And, there is a From Fat to Phat! health fair going on all day, with free massage therapists, trainers, doctors and more. Plus, there is free shuttle service for your parking convenience.

HEADLINERS: Actor Morris Chestnut of “The Best Man” and “Perfect Holiday” and female gospel trio Tri-ni-tee 5:7.
HIGHLIGHTS:
• Education Day, which focuses on events for middle and high school student across the state, including the “Black History Game Show,” 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Polk County Convention Complex.
• Embracing Excellence Gala, annual “I’ll Make Me a World” red carpet fundraiser with wine, soul food, music and an awards ceremony, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, HyVee Hall, tickets are $50.
• Celebration Day, three stages of performers, culture, art, history, health screenings, booths hosted by community groups, soul food, and speakers, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Polk County Convention Complex.
FOOD: Vendor offerings will include soul food, barbecued ribs and brisket, jambalaya, catfish, Cajun fries, gumbo, red beans and rice and Italian grinders.
ACTIVITIES: Afrocentric wares; “From Fat to Phat” health fair with heart, diabetes, and other screenings; car show, African-American Business Association workshops; Eulenspiegel Puppets; Greek Row; kids rides; mask making; black doctors and Inventors exhibit; belly dancing workshop.
SHUTTLE PARKING PROVIDED: To ease your parking, Des Moines Area Transit (DART) will provide free shuttles will run throughout the day.
ADMISSION: Free, except for Friday night’s “Embracing Excellence” gala.
